Royal London![]() The Royals as we Brits affectionately call them, have been around for quite some time! If you are interested in getting a taste of Royal London then here are the best places to visit: Buckingham Palace and Horse Guards Parade, I've grouped these two together as they are only 5 minutes walk from each other. Buckingham Palace is the official London home of the monarch. Queen Elizabeth II opened some parts of the palace to visitors a few years ago for the first time ever, it was a success and now every summer you are able to have a look around the State Rooms, queue for tickets at the Palace itself - only available in August and September. Horse Guards is a short walk away, across St James Park, at the back is the parade ground area and at the front, which is actually on (the street called) Whitehall are the famous extra large sentry boxes where a couple of mounted Horse Guards stand guard - this being an almost irresistable photo opportunity for most people (and yes I've taken a picture there too)!! Kensington Palace, a traditional Royal Residence made especially famous when Princess Diana lived there. Open to the public all year round and with various special Royal Exhibitions on show. Hampton Court, historic Royal Palace - made famous as the home of Henry VIII, he of the 6 wives. Visiting the Palace and Gardens (with maze) is a day out in itself, located at the edge of London, a short train journey from Waterloo or in the summer a lovely river boat trip from Charing Cross Pier. Tower of London, see the Crown Jewels, Beefeaters (the strangely uniformed guards), Ravens and so on. Question: Have you met the Queen? Answer: Yes!! at a charity event way back in the 1980s - Jeremy meets the Queen, I look much older now!! useful pages: useful references (other wesites): |
