Historic London![]() Many people come to London for a sense of the historic, they are not disappointed, London is a city seeped in history and pageantry. The Museum of London is relatively small as museums go, but would be high on my list, you know 200 years in bite sized pieces!! The Museum of London is located in the city right by a section of the old wall, the wall is interesting in itself, there are sections that date back from Roman times. Some things really are time specific and you can't get around that, so it is with these next two events - listed because they really do represent, the traditions and history of London. Trooping the Colour, this is the celebration of the Queen's official birthday, the guards and horse guards put on a fabulous parade, bands play and so on, they march from Horse Guards Parade to Buckingham Palace, there are huge crowds lining the route and quite a carnival atmosphere, this is in June every year, if you can't make that, there is always the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace - which is a daily event. The Lord Mayor's Show, the Lord Mayor of London, not to be confused with the common old Mayor of London (they are different - only in England, eh?), this event dates back 800 years - yes my American friends, before your country was even discovered!! This is a huge parade along the streets of the city of London, culminating in the Lord Mayor pledging his allegiance to the crown. next ... traditional Iconic London Buildings useful pages: useful references (other wesites): |
